Digital Paxton: Digital Collection, Critical Edition, and Teaching Platform

Archive

Welcome to the Paxton Archive. Click any item to access images, metadata, and full-text transcriptions as we add them. (Reference Franklin’s “Narrative" for a sample pamphlet annotated with transcriptions.)

All images are free for non-commercial use under Creative Commons, Attribution-Non-Commercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0). By default, all images are available as 300 dpi jpeg files, though readers are encouraged to visit the Library Company of Philadelphia, the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, the American Philosophical Society, the Moravian Archives, and Haverford College Quaker and Special Collections for additional download options.

Below "Contents" you may use paths to filter materials by type. There are currently 58 Pamphlets, 16 Manuscripts, 12 Broadsides, eight German Language Materials, and seven Political Cartoons. The Background path aggregates 13 related items published between 1755-1774, and the Multiple Editions path features 11 pamphlets for which we have digitized more than one edition of each item. Digital Paxton also includes specialized holdings: Haverford College Quaker and Special Collections has made available 39 Friendly Association manuscripts and the American Philosophical Society has digitized 20 Edward Shippen letters.

Finally, you can use the Search button to search across item names, metadata, and transcriptions. (We ask your patience as Scalar crawls more than 1,500 items loaded into the site.) At any point you return to this or any other path using the Table of Contents, accessible from the menu in the top left corner of the screen.
