The Congregational Diary of Lancaster Moravian Church, 27-28 December 1763 - 2

They got back on their horse, they rode around the Court-house, shot their guns, yelling and making a terrible noise and rode then, as we heard, to Philadelphia, in order to kill the Indians there on Province Island. We thought much of our dear hearts and we commended them to the dear Lord. Many Brethren visited us, they were very perplexed.  We comforted ourselves with the lovely verse: The Lord is my Shepherd and the Lord alone helps me to dwell securely.

Wednesday the 28th [December 1763]
We thought of dear Benigna on her birthday today. Br. Ebermann went to Lititz. I wrote to Br. Matthaeus. There were many children in school. After that I spoke on the verse from the love for the Savior and what a grace that is to be attached to him without distraction. In the afternoon they buried the 14 murdered Indians from the Prison, in a large grave, accompanied by several hundred people, who accompanied them with ridicule and scolding. In the evening Pastor Rieger came to me and stayed then for the service, in which I spoke about the Watchword for the Day. When Br. Ebermann returned from Lititz I received a letter from Br. Matthaeus. Today my Molly received [a letter] from Sr. Hehl by way of David Buehler.
