Letter from Albrecht Ludolph Russmeyer to Nathanael Seidel, January 2, 1764 - 2

Lancaster 2 Jan. 1764

My precious heart Nathanael!

At the beginning of a new year, I wish all of you, dearest hearts, His blessed presence for your hearts and bodies, the protection and memory of the Father (and the rich comfort of the Holy Spirit, our dear Mother), Who has taken the conduct of the war into His hands, especially in the present machinations of the Evil One and his minions.

Everything looks melancholy and terrible. I heard yesterday that several hundred persons had gathered on the frontier with the intention of marching down to Philadelphia to kill any Indians they find there. We think a lot about the poor sheep who are on that island and the Congregational Watchword of the 4th of this month, that they might supposedly come down, has comforted us and given us faithful hope. He will find ways and means to rescue them. It is well that this is known in Philadelphia, as an express was sent off yesterday evening by the Friends, alerting them to the plan.

He has never overlooked anything in His governing and anything He does or lets happen will turn out for the best. Our Brethren and Sisters here are heartily upset and full of care (because they had listened to the tale) that these people have evil plans against Bethlehem
