Commission for Timothy Horsfield, July 11, 1763

By the Honourable James Hamilton Esquire Lieutenant Governor & Commander in chief of the Province of Pennsylvania & Counties of New Castle Kent and Sussex, on Delaware.

To Timothy Horsfield of the County of Northampton Esquire, Greeting;

Reposing especial Trust and Confidence, as well in your Care, Diligence & Circumspection, as in your Loyalty and Courage, I do, by Virtue of the Powers and Authorities unto me given, hereby nominate, constitute and appoint you the said Timothy Horsfield Commander of two Companies of Foot to be forthwith raised in the Country of Northampton in the pay of said Province. You are therefore to take the said two Companies into your Charge and Care as Commander therefore and to make such a Disposition of the Officers and Soldiers of the said two Companies as shall be most conducive to the Protection and Defence of the Frontier Inhabitants of the said Province. And as they are hereby to obey You as their Commander, so You are likewise to observe and follow such Orders and Directions, from Time to Time, as You shall receive from the Commander in Chief for the time being of the said Province, or any other Your Superior Officer or Officers, according to the Rules and Descriptions of War, in Pursuance of the Trust reposed in You. And Your so doing this shall be your Commission.

Given under my Hand & Seal at Arms, at Philadelphia the Eleventh day of July in the third Year of His Majesty’s Reign and in the Year of our Lord One Thousand seven hundred and sixty three.
