Digital Paxton: Digital Collection, Critical Edition, and Teaching Platform

Public Outreach

While Digital Paxton is intended to serve scholars, it is by design a public humanities project. To that end, Digital Paxton is accessible through the Historical Society of Pennsylvania Digital History Projects, the Library Company of Philadelphia Digital Humanities, and the Fordham University Digital Collaborative.

Visitors may choose to follow updates using Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

To promote public engagement, Will Fenton regularly presents the project to a range of audiences at a host of different platforms, including the McNeil Center for Early American Studies, the MLA Connected Academics Summer Institute, Lehigh University, Keystone DH, NYC DH Week, PhillyDH, and Philadelphia Archives Month. The project has been featured in the American QuarterlyCommon-placeFordham RamOmohundro Institute of Early American History and CultureOrganization of American Historians, and Philadelphia Inquirer

In some instances, public engagement has made Digital Paxton more complete. For example, a collaboration with students and faculty at Shepherd and Loyola University enabled a new crowdsourced transcription project, and a Spring 2017 exhibition at the Library Company of Philadelphia has been integrated into the project as a key historical framework.
