Digital Paxton: Digital Collection, Critical Edition, and Teaching Platform

Public Outreach

While Digital Paxton is intended to serve scholars, it is by design a public humanities project. To that end, Digital Paxton is accessible through the Historical Society of Pennsylvania Digital History Projects, the Library Company of Philadelphia Digital Humanities, and the Fordham University Digital Collaborative. Visitors may also opt to receive updates by following on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

To promote public outreach, I have presented the project to a range of audiences, including the McNeil Center for Early American Studies, Lehigh University, Keystone DH, PhillyDH, and, most recently, Philadelphia Archives Month. The project has been featured in the Philadelphia Inquirer, Common-place, and on numerous blogs. In some instances, that outreach has made Digital Paxton more complete. For example, a collaboration with students and faculty at Shepherd and Loyola University enabled a new crowdsourced transcription project, and I recently translated a Spring 2017 exhibition at the Library Company of Philadelphia into a permanent digital companion.
